Troubleshooting
Fixes for sign-in handoffs, locked Pro features, undetected local models, refused cloud reviews and dictation.
#macOS refuses to open the app
DiffGuardian is signed and notarized, so this usually means a damaged download.
- Delete the copy in Applications and re-download it from the homepage.
- Open it from Applications rather than from the disk image.
- If macOS still refuses, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway for DiffGuardian.
#The browser signs me in but the app stays on Signing in
- Use the click here to continue link on the "Returning to DiffGuardian…" tab.
- If your operating system asks for permission to open DiffGuardian, allow it.
- The link works once and expires after five minutes. Start sign-in again from the app rather than reloading the tab.
- If you signed in on a browser other than the one the app opened, sign in again in that one.
#A feature opens an upgrade prompt, or Pro is still locked
That feature needs Pro. See pricing. If you just upgraded, wait a few seconds, then quit and reopen DiffGuardian. If Pro still isn't showing, confirm the payment completed in the billing portal. An abandoned checkout creates no subscription. For a team seat, confirm you belong to the organisation that bought it.
#I have run out of reviews, or can't add a repository
Basic includes 5 AI reviews per calendar month, resets on the first of the month, and connects one public repository. Everything else keeps working. Pro lifts all three limits.
#A local model is not detected
- Confirm Ollama, LM Studio,
llama-serveror vLLM is running with a model loaded. - Confirm the address in AI settings matches its port (Ollama
11434, LM Studio1234, llama.cpp8080, vLLM8000). - If the server requires a key, enter the same key in that row.
- If you changed models, reselect the model so DiffGuardian picks up the new name.
See Choosing models.
#Cloud reviews are refused
- On Basic: cloud providers need Pro. A saved key won't be used.
- On Pro: check that the provider is toggled on, its key is valid, and the feature is routed to it in Settings → Model routing.
- Errors such as an expired key, no credit or a rate limit come from the provider. Check your account with them.
- On OpenRouter: a model that can't produce the requested response format can't be used for reviews. Pick one marked as supporting structured outputs. A model id that no longer resolves has usually been retired, so search for its replacement.
#Dictation does not start
Check that microphone permission is granted, Input voice is on in Settings → Voice, and an OpenAI API key is saved in Settings → AI providers. See Voice.
#Answers cite files that no longer exist
The index is built from your local copy of the repository. After pulling a large branch, let the index catch up, and re-index if the repository has changed a lot.
#The app keeps asking me to update
Updates are required. Install the update to continue.
