AI code review with my own API key?
Last updated September 26, 2026
DiffGuardian can review pull requests using your own API key for Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, or OpenRouter — billed directly by that provider, on your existing account, with no markup from DiffGuardian. Your key is encrypted in your operating system's credential store and used only on your device.
#Supported providers
- Anthropic
- OpenAI
- Google Gemini
- OpenRouter — one key reaches roughly 400 models from every major lab; see Choosing models for details.
#How it works
- Enter your API key for a provider in Settings → AI providers.
- DiffGuardian sends requests from your machine directly to that provider, authenticated with your key — never relayed through DiffGuardian.
- Route each feature — reviewing, Ask, Trace It, and the rest — to the provider and model you want in Settings → Model routing.
Bring-your-own-key providers require Pro. On Basic the provider toggles and key fields are visible but locked; turning one on opens an upgrade prompt.
#Limits
- Bring-your-own-key providers require a Pro plan.
- DiffGuardian does not resell tokens or add a markup; you are billed by the provider directly, on your existing account.
- Because it is your key, the data is governed by your own agreement with that provider — check each provider's API data-usage terms for specifics.
